Marguerite Chetcuti

Ms Marguerite Chetcuti has experience in programming, implementing and auditing EU Funds for more than 25 years. She started working with the European Commission Delegation in Malta in 1991. Up to Malta’s accession to the EU in 2004 she was closely involved in the programming and implementation of the bi-lateral and pre-accession assistance to Malta and participated in the negotiation process for Malta’s accession to the EU.. Post accession, Marguerite moved to the EU Delegation in Turkey, as Coordination Manager, to set-up the team for the programming and implementation of pre-accession assistance to Turkey. This included the measures to prepare the Turkish institutions to cope with the requirements for management of EU Funds under the IPA Regulation, and coordinating the assessment of the compliance of the management and control systems for the various components of the IPA Regulation. In 2007, she moved to Brussels, to take up a new challenge as an external auditor in the former DG Justice, Liberty and Security bringing her experience to develop the audit team in the DG. In 2018, Ms. Chetcuti was nominated as Head of the External Audit Sector for DG Migration and Home Affairs. The external audit sector is also responsible for auditing EU funds for DG Justice and Consumers. Throughout her career with the European Commission, she has accumulated an in-depth experience in managing and controlling EU Funds and preparing candidate countries to build the capacity for management and control of EU Funds. She took part in the elaboration and practical implementation of the legal basis for AMIF and ISF and subsequent legal amendments and actively involved in the drafting of the common provisions regulation for the next programming period and Fund specific regulations.
Ms. Chetcuti studied business administration and management and has a MBA.
