Harold Nyssens

Mr. Nyssens has extensive experience in competition policy. Since 2021, he has been serving as the head of unit overseeing enforcement and policy development related to fiscal state aid and aggressive tax planning. Previously he held different management positions relating to state aid policy and HR. From 2011 to 2014 Mr. Nyssens was a member of the Commissioner Damanaki’s cabinet, in charge of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Before joining the Commission he worked for five years as a référendaire at the EU General Court.
Mr. Nyssens studied law at the St. Louis University in Brussels, University of Leuven, Edinburgh and Saarbrücken. In addition to his work at the European Commission, Mr. Nyssens was also a lecturer in European Competition Policy in various universities and master programmes such as MERNI (Bonn University, Master in Energy law), MEEL (Environment & Energy LLM programme, Leuven University) and the MBA Programme at the Saarbrücken University. Mr. Nyssens is fluent in French, English, German, Dutch and Italian.
