Dario Nicolella
Internal auditor at FAO and government consultant – former Head of Sector in the European Commission
Dario Nicolella is an internal auditor at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and a consultant working for several government agencies.
He worked for the European Commission between 2013 and 2025, where he covered the positions of Head of Sector in the Joint Audit Directorate for Cohesion (DAC), Programme Manager Erasmus+ in DG EAC, and member of the Internal Audit Service.
He has extensive experience in Cohesion Policy, as he has been responsible for the audit of over 30 Operational programmes between ERDF, ESF+, FEAD and Interreg in 7 EU Member States. He coordinated and participated to expert working groups between the European Commission and Member States on grant management, public procurement, simplified cost options, financing not linked to costs. Member of the ESF+/ERDF transnational network on simplification.
As a lecturer, he provided internal trainings for the European Commission as well as workshops for Member states in the TAIEX network.
Dario Nicolella has an academic background in economics and public administration, as well as a master’s degree in philosophy.
