Karel has 15 years’ experience in all aspects of EU and Belgian competition law as well as state aid law. He has represented a wide range of clients in merger control, abuse of dominance and cartel cases before the European Commission and the Belgian Competition Authority. As one of the few state aid experts at the Brussels bar, a considerable part of his practice also involves representing clients in strategic state aid cases. He also litigates in competition-related matters before the courts. In addition, he offers antitrust compliance support to his clients. Sector-wise, Karel has particular experience in the media, energy, financial, consumer goods and industrial sectors.
He is the author of a number of legal publications in the field of Belgian and EU competition law. His published work includes a report commissioned by the European Commission on the enforcement of State aid rules at Member State level.
